Dragon's Exodus: The MUD
The Legend
Each people of Icaria tells a different story of the world’s beginning. Some speak of primordial gods and the fires of creation. Others tell of an ocean of Astral power from which all things arose. Yet one legend has travelled farther than most. Mortal heroes challenged a great dragon, claimed a stone of extraordinary power and rose as gods. Their victory became the founding tale of a pantheon.
Kingdoms grew beneath the gods’ gaze. Clans and temples gathered around their promises and generations of mortals fought to defend them. There were acts of courage and mercy but also rivalries that outlived those who first took up arms. Cities burned and allegiances changed. Yet the histories remember the triumphs of immortals more readily than the lives spent achieving them.
In time, divine power waned. Rifts opened between Icaria and the outer realms admitting beings the weakened pantheon could not contain. The cities, clans and temples joined against the threat yet their strength faltered. Some gods exhausted themselves trying to preserve the world. Others departed. In the end their sanctuaries fell silent and much of what they left behind passed into ruin and obscurity.
The darkness eventually receded, though its ending remains disputed. Centuries have passed since the age of gods. Their names survive in prayers, their rivalries in old wounds, and their promises in stories that do not always agree. Adventurers still seek answers among ruined kingdoms, forgotten sanctuaries, and the lands beyond the waygates. What became of Icaria’s gods? Which parts of their legend deserve belief? The world remains, and its oldest mysteries have not fallen silent.
